LEBRONZE DIVISION

GAME PREVIEW – RIVARLY WEEK

Welcome to Rivalry Week. We break down the match-ups and see if they can live up to the hype that is, Rivalry Week.

“What’s Wrong With D-League DT?”

D-League DT vs. Still Fly
LeBRONZE DIVISION

League analyst Jim Nguyen is dumb-founded with D-League DT’s slump. Matt Frock reasons and explains it must be Paulo Montoya’s arm. Still, many are wondering if D-League DT can make like Krunk’d and climb out of their slump.

The match-up: D-League DT ranks last in PPG averaging just 45.5 ppg. Still Fly, believe it or not, is averaging 50.0 ppg and ranks 2nd to last in the scoring department. D-League DT is 1-3 while Still Fly ranks 0-6.

Is this a rivalry:
Still Fly Center Harry Yoo hates playing against D-League and it stems from his old Cow Poly Pomona days. Even when he played with JimenezWockeez, he felt D-League was a dirty team and they like to low bridge their opponents (in his own words). If he wakes up for this match-up, it could be an intense, sloppy game.

What it comes down to:
Walnut Rec needs buy a new backboard after this match-up because both D-League DT and Still Fly will be throwing up some bricks in this very early game.

Still Fly PF Paul Santellan is averaging 2.0 ppg and hits the backboard as if he were playing handball. The ball ricochets off the backboard by about 5 feet, and that’s when he’s just 2 feet away. Alvin Queruibin is averaging 15.0 ppg while Harry Yoo is averaging 17.8 ppg.

D-League DT hasn’t been able to adjust without injured star Paulo Montoya and the result is 45.5 ppg, their second lowest output in franchise history. GM Leomar Cachola is averaging 14.5 ppg while Justin Padiernos is averaging 11.5 ppg.

Which team will win: The marquee match-up will be Jon Paras vs. Justin Padiernos. Both are crafty guards with the ability to score and pass. Whichever team controls the pace should win and we have to give the edge to D-League DT.

D-League DT vs. Boxed Out
LeBRONZE DIVISION

The match-up: Boxed Out GM Kameron Johnson is celebrating his birthday with a double-header. D-League DT, playing only 4 games so far, are also celebrating Rivalry Week with a double-header.

Is this a rivalry:
No. Even if Kameron Johnson decides to sit out his best players in Jordan Call (15.3 ppg, 15 blocks) and Kerry Woodard (21.0 ppg, 1.6 spg), this game won’t be competitive enough. The former MVP Call leads LeBronze in blocked shots and has 13 more than the entire D-League DT team.

D-League DT upset Assassins but that was because their players showed up late in the 2nd half. If GM Johnson sticks with his bench against D-League DT, the Pomona team could steal this one. With a Championship on the horizon for Boxed Out, don’t look for Johnson to risk it.

Which team will win: Boxed Out bench < Leomar Cachola, Boxed Out > D-League DT + Kassah Kantiok + Jeb Busbin.

The Fallen vs. Game Bang
LeBRONZE DIVISION

The match-up: Both Pomona team Game Bang and LA team, The Fallen, are 2-4.

Is this a rivalry:
Game Bang vs. Elements, Summer 2008. It was the first Championship Game Bang won and several players from The Fallen might remember the last second shot by Jeri De Leon. De Leon is averaging 19.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg while Robert Perez is averaging 16.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg.

The Fallen is led by the duo of James Santillan (7.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg) and Narob Federico. Fedrico re-aggravated a knee injury two weeks ago but there’s no question he wants this win. With the Elements playing a 2-3 zone with 5 seconds in the Championship Game, It was his zone that De Leon connected from and Elements parted ways with Federico shortly after.

Which team will win: The Fallen. They should want to win this one for their injured coach/player. Both teams are evenly matched but The Fallen should have the competitive edge over Game Bang.

Bulls vs. Krunk’d
LeBRONZE DIVISION

The match-up: Bulls or Bullies or Barrio Bang-gals are 5-1 and are tied for 1st in the LeBronze Division. Krunk’d, after suffering a 9 game losing streak, has cracked the top 4 by winning 4 straight games and improving to a 4-2 record.

Is this a rivalry:
After Krunk’d and the rest of the gang messed with the game logs last week, “Uno-Dos” aka League Commissioner wants to put an end to Krunkd’s winning streak. Shortly after beating Game Bang, players tampered with the game log and added tallies to their stats. Ryan Rulloda has been released of his duties but has taken the heat for his teammates shenanigans. Will this turn out to be a personal match-up?

Which team will win: Bullies are led by rookie duo, Dominique Odums (19.0 ppg) and Nate Primous Jr (12.2 ppg, 3.6 apg). The Commish is insisting that LeBronze should be fair and is recreation only. We find it amusing that he stacked his roster with players from Roosevelt H.S. and it’s clear that he stacked the Bullies to win a Championship this season.

Krunk’d is led by Valen Vysosias (17.2 ppg, 9.2 rpg) and GM Ryan Rulloda (16.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg). The team produces 6 three-pointers per game and they have the personnel to light it up from long distance. If Bullies let up on defense, Krunk’d could put Bullies’ Championship hopes in jeopardy.

Lights Out vs. Pharcyde
LeBRONZE DIVISION

The match-up: Both teams have played in several marquee games in the past (Fall 2009, Week 8) but both teams have struggled this season. Rewind to Fall 2009, G.B.O.B.L.O aka Lights Out defeated Pharcyde, 61-54, in a memorable match-up to end the season.

Is this a rivalry:
It probably won’t have a rivalry feel since Lights Out GM Victor Ng (7.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg) and Kevin Valmonte (20.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg) are in Vegas. Cyrus Regalado (24.4 ppg, 2.0 apg) has gone on record to say their players will be missing and Lights Out will be short-handed. Regalado has taken over as the division’s leading scorer as he leads all players with 122 points.

Which team will win: Cyrus Regalado can’t do it alone, can he? Pharcyde has players that can double-team Cyrus and the rest of Lights Out has to step up. Still, it’s a team sport and Lights Out will have too many players missing this Rivalry match-up.

Assassins vs. Dipset
LeBRONZE DIVISION

The match-up: Both teams are surprisingly 2-3 and league analysts had both teams ranked in the Top 5 early in the Pre-season. Both teams have lost forgettable games to D-League DT and Brand Nu (respectively)and both Assassins and Dipset are under-achieving this season.

Both teams are missing their best shooters with Assassins SG Rodney Ching suffering from another injury plagued season (gout). Assassins have a huge front line with Tray Von Brown (16.6 ppg), Daniel Smith (17.0 ppg) and Center Brent Johnson is averaging 14.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg. Despite one of the biggest front-court in the division, Assassins doesn’t even crack the Top 5 in rebounding or blocked shots.

Is this a rivalry:
Probably not unless Dipset founder, Jim Nguyen, starts calling Brent Johnson Carl Winslow again. Yes, there were several games when Jim would hang out in the stands and openly mock Brent Johnson from afar.

Nguyen is averaging 8.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg while Dipset SF Matt Frock hasn’t missed a game for Dipset and is now the face of the franchise for GM Li Mao. He is averaging 12.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg and has 10 three-pointers, a team-high. Rookie Ryan Mercado is averaging 10.5 ppg while Brent Abutin is averaging 5.3 ppg.

Which team will win: If Dipset plays inspired ball, they could defeat Assassins easily. As long as Assassins 3 biggest players show up, Assassins should beat Dipset to improve their record to .500.
