Welcome to the Season Finale of Season 17, Enter the Hall.
This weekend is the last weekend of the summer and teams will wrap up the Regular Season of Season 17 at Walnut Rec. It’s been an eventful Summer – from SSBL Hall of Fame Squad holding it down at Nike’s 3-on-3 Tournament, to Flava 4 Life’s historic 14 game winning streak, our new Co-ed Division to Dipset’s pursuit of their first LeBronze Division Championship. The season has been unforgettable to say the least and players have one last chance to sway voters for End of the Season Awards.
“Re-matches”
Krunk’d vs. Mint Kondition
LEBRONZE DIVISION
By: Ken Ngarayawongse
Mint Kondition will get another crack at Krunk'd in week 7, a team that essentially eliminated Mint Kondition's Championship hopes with a 56-55 win.
Although both teams are out of the playoff picture expect this game to be heated as their last match up came down to the wire. Krunk'd is led by their duo Ryan Rulloda and Valen Vysosias. Ryan is connecting for an amazing 5.5 threes per game translating to a team high 18.7 points per game. Valen is close behind averaging 18.2 points while also being the defensive anchor with 2.7 steals per game. Last time these two teams met, Valen led the way to a victory with his game high 15 points.
Mint Kondition is led by All Star Darrel Mendoza. He is averaging a team high 21.3 points, 4.3 threes, and 5.3 rebounds. Krunk'd will need to keep him off the free throw line as he is a 95.2% shooter from the charity stripe. In order for Mint to be successful they will need to limit their turnovers and contain the guards of Krunk'd. Mint Kondition is the slight favorite with their ability to convert a high percentage at the line.
Assassins vs. Lights Out
LEBRONZE DIVISION
By: Ken Ngarayawongse
Assassins are having a solid season with a 5-2 record and will look to end their season with a win against Lights Out. Assassins are led by Kevin Valmonte and Calvin Chen. Kevin is doing is usual thing with 21.7 points, 2.4 assists, and 11.0 rebounds per game while Calvin is averaging 14.6 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.
Lights Out is led by Cyrus Regalado and Ed Princpe. Cyrus is averaging 20.9 points and 11.7 rebounds while Ed is posting a solid 15.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. With no playoff format in Le Bronze both teams are noticeably disappointed as they are both strong contenders.
Game Bang vs. Justice League
LEBRONZE DIVISION
By: Ken Ngarayawongse
Unlike the Justice League in the Gold Division, the Lebronze version has enjoyed more success with a 3-4 record. Leomar Cachola also leads the Lebronze team much like he does for the Gold team averaging 18.7 points, 2.3 assists, and 8.0 rebounds per game. He has impressive stats for a guard and they will need every bit of his game to take down Game Bang. Jon Ellis Ferrer has played well alongside Leomar as he averages 11.6 points and has knocked down a team high 17 threes on the season.
Game Bang has surprisingly struggled this season even with the all star play of Jeri De Leon and Kevin Koda. Jeri has been consistent since entering the league averaging 19.0 points, 2.8 threes, and 2.0 steals per game this season. Kevin Koda is also averaging 19.0 points and leads the team in threes with 13. In a way their struggles can be attributed to their lack of attendance. If they can showcase a full lineup in week 7, we give them the edge over Justice League.
Elements vs. Game Bang
LEBRONZE DIVISION
By: Hanz Jimenez
One team will walk away with their first win of the season as Elements and Game Bang face off in a must-see match-up to end the summer season. Just 2 years ago, both teams faced each other in LeBronze's Inaugural Championship Game. Two years later, the stakes are still high and both teams want to win their season finale.
"There's no way both these teams want to walk away with a winless season," said a league analyst.
Several issues are affecting both teams as Game Bang deals with attendance problems and Elements has virtually 2 different teams in their roster. "The Redeemed" is scheduled to start their first season next season but for their last game with Elements, will the Redeemed play as a unit with Elements?
Elements vs. Ninja Turtles
LEBRONZE DIVISION
By: Hanz Jimenez
Both teams are having spin-offs next season with former GM Ninja Turtles GM Efehi Ogbebor returning to Gold Division next season. Elements is branching off to two different teams. With drastic changes next season for both Ninja Turtles and Elements, which team will hold it down in their season finale.
Ninja Turtles were looking like an entourage all season and next season, they will officially change their team name to Entourage. GM Eric Villegas is in the running for GM of the Season while Bryan Gernux has to be considered as an MVP candidate. Beau Reyes had a strong push late in the season and league analysts expect him to be comfortable with the team next season. He was clutch late in the game against Boxed Out last week and he's shown he could carry Ninja Turtles if ever they go on a scoring drought. Can Entourage be successful as Ninja Turtles for the last time this season?
Mint Kondition vs. Still Fly
LEBRONZE DIVISION
By: Hanz Jimenez
This is a rematch from a couple of weeks back but word on the street is Still Fly will be coasting in this match-up. Their bench mob is hoping to close out the season and Uno Dos is rumored to be shutting it down in the season finale.
"I already got the scoring title... when I went to the Philippines," joked Uno Dos. "Realistically, I see 15 today, I'm still on vacation mode."
Mint Kondition plays their second games as if they were on vacay and GM Jeff Jumarang needs to work on his team's lack of conditioning. They've been 0-2 when it comes to double-headers and Jumarang is well aware of the team's weakness.
"Mint Un-Konditioned is their nickname until they prove they can win double-headers," joked a league analyst.
