“The Waiting Game”
Blitzburgh vs. Justice League
GOLD DIVISION
By: Ken Ngarayawongse
In Week 8, a surprise match up, Blitzburgh is set to take on low seed Justice League. Usually the final week of the regular season will see closely ranked teams match up. However, Blitzburgh should not take the game lightly as they can still make a move to the 3rd seed.
They will ride the hot play of All Stars Mike and Chris Epps. They have been a force to reckon with in the Gold Division and should be no different in Week 8 and in the Playoffs. Mike is averaging a double double with 23.3 points and 10.7 rebounds; he also leads the team in assists with 3.4 per game. Chris Epps has complemented Mike by averaging 16.3 points, 2 threes, and 1.9 steals per game. Word on the street is Chris Epps has been requesting for the 8 a.m. game time just because Center Janel Wilson may be unavailable for the match-up.
Justice League will counter with Leomar Cachola but with no true center they will need to rely on their bench play to provide defense against Mike Epps. Leomar is avearging a team high 16.8 points, 3.2 assists, and 6.0 rebounds per game. Rookie Joselito Victorino is a ROS candidate and he is averaging 20.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg. Most Improved Player of the Season candidate, Paulo Montoya, is averaging 10.8 ppg while Justin Nguyen is averaging 10.0 ppg.
Believe it or not, Black Ballin’ still has a chance to make the Playoffs. A couple of tie-breakers here and there could make it possible for BB to make it but one thing is sure, Justice League must win this match-up if they want to make it to the post-season.
Team Kellz vs. Run N Gun
GOLD DIVISION
By: Ken Ngarayawongse
Run N Gun takes on Team Kellz in Week 8 and are huge favorites in the match up. They are led by Rashad Martin and Jay R Gomez. The duo has been unstoppable all season and should be exciting to watch once playoffs begin. Rashad is averaging 15.0 points, 2.2 assists, and 8.0 rebounds per game. Gomez is averaging a team high 18.8 points and has been lights out from down town with 21 threes on the season.
Team Kellz have struggled all season long as they built their team with the idea of centering their offense around Jamil Greenwood. He has been a no show for the majority of the season and has caused major issues for Team Kellz. With Jamil out of the lineup, Marsels Erving is leading the team in scoring with 10.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. They will need to count on the supporting cast if they want a chance at knocking off the number 3 seed.
BLSU vs. Dynasty
GOLD DIVISION
By: Ken Ngarayawongse
Dynasty snapped their losing streak through an unconventional win against Brotherhood. Their win in Week 7 came via a forfeit so the team has yet to put it all together. They are struggling as a unit with so many new faces and it will be interesting if they can make a late push in the playoff rankings. They are led by former All Star Center Jesse Romero and although his numbers have taken a major drop off, they will fall back on him if they want any shot at a championship.
BLSU has lost 4 straight but will look to end their season on a positive note as it will help with their confidence next season. They are led by Andrew Filamor and Justin Medina. Andrew is averaging 12.6 points and 2.6 threes per games while Justin is averaging 12.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. With both teams struggling as of late, there is no clear favorite.
Adoboys vs. Outlawz
GOLD DIVISION
By: Ken Ngarayawongse
Adoboys are currently sitting 9th in the playoff rankings and could see a noticeable jump in the rankings if they can upset number 1 ranked Outlawz.
Aside from taking down the number 1 seed, they could also break up their perfect season. Breaking up their perfect season will be no easy task for Adoboys as Outlawz showcase 4 players in double figures. They are led by Marlon Parrales and Eduardo Gonzalez. Marlon is averaging 16.8 points and a team high 3.3 threes per game. Eduardo is nearly averaging a double double with 17.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Adoboys will counter with Rookie of the Season favorite Matt Dickinson and Kyle Moschkin. Matt has been carrying the load all season averaging 23.1 points and 12.7 rebounds. Kyle is second in scoring with 10.6 points, 1.6 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Adoboys will need their bench play to produce on both sides of the court if they want a shot at upsetting Outlawz. Expect Outlawz to come out with a sense of urgency as they would love to finish the regular season a perfect 8-0 record. Adoboys showed a lot of rust last week and despite taking a few steps forward in the past few weeks, it looks like Adoboys is back to square one.
Trinicousins vs. Wedashitudaflys
GOLD DIVISION
By: Hanz Jimenez
Trinicousins take on Weda in Week 8 and the match up could be one of the more interesting games in week 8. Trinicousins are led by Ryan Basco and Chris Capinia. Ryan is averaging a team high 20.5 points, 2.8 threes, and 2.2 steals per game. Chris Capinia is averaging 14.3 points and 3.3 steals. As a team they are averaging 7.3 steals and 9.2 threes per game. The team has surprised many league analysts but week after week they continue to prove people wrong. They will not be a surprise team once playoffs begin. It was a surprise when Trinicousins lost to Run N Gun by such a huge margin last week but look for Trinicousins to bounce back against Wedashitudaflys this week.
Weda will quietly enter the playoffs with a win or loss in week 8 but the league is very apparent of the talent on their roster. The roster features Alex “Bear” Ivezaj and Dedrick “D1” Bates. Bates is averaging a team high 27.2 points, 4.0 threes, and 3.0 assists per game. Alex has provided solid post game his whole career in SBL and this season has been no different as he averages 20.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
League analysts give a slight edge to Weda as they should own the paint with players like Alex and Rene Medina. Expect the crowd to play a huge factor and expect Trinicousins to counter with their speed against Weda.
Boss Players vs. The Rock
GOLD DIVISION
By: Hanz Jimenez
The Rock is set to take on Boss Players in week 8. Both teams have had successful seasons thus far and should be contenders for a championship once playoffs begin.
The Rock has won 4 straight after losing 3 to begin the season. A perfect way to enter the playoffs as they are rolling on all cylinders. They do not showcase one star player as they all contribute on both sides of the court. They do have one x-factor in Jamal Jones who has only made 2 appearances all season. In the 2 appearances he averaging 26.0 points and could make some noise in the playoffs.
Boss Players are quite the opposite as they run their offense through 2 players, Uzoma Kalu and Jason Fielder. They combine to average 30.3 points per game both doing much of their damage in the paint. There ability to get in and knock in the easy buckets have contributed to a 5-2 record. Boss Players are slightly favored in this match up.
